Media Release: Destination Medicine

news-media-release.jpg

Navigating the path from medical school to fully-fledged doctor can be quite a maze of choices and options, with many forks in the road. With over 23 specialities, 81 fields of speciality practice and 86 speciality titles, young medical trainees at some point must choose what area of medicine is for them.

To help them make this choice, the Regional Training Hubs network is launching a new podcast called ‘Destination Medicine’. The initial series of eight episodes will include a range of conversations, mainly from current doctors and specialists about their career choices, what they enjoy about their area of expertise and why they’ve chosen to work in various locations.

The podcast provides another source of information in a new and creative way to help our emerging doctors make informed career decisions. It is an exciting project for the network of Regional Training Hubs, which were created in 2017 by the Federal Government. Working with local health services and universities, the Hubs are improving the coordination of all stages of medical training to maximise opportunities for medical students and junior doctors to gain as much of their training as possible in rural and remote areas.

Destination Medicine was officially launched on October 25 at the Rural Medicine Australia Conference on the Gold Coast. The first five episodes of series one of the podcast, are now available to download on our podcasts page.

Dates of release for more episodes in 2019:

4/12/2019 – Dr. Sarah McLain – “Being Brave”
